I reported a similar thing a while back (pre OS X 10.2), after omitting
'text returned of' from a script that adds a Finder comment to the file of
an open document from within the app that the document is being edited with.

Like this:

--========================================
tell application "Script Debugger" --(or BBEdit, or Tex Edit Plus, etc)
set theFile to file of window 1
set theComment to (display dialog "Enter comment..." default answer "")
end tell
tell application "Finder" to set comment of theFile to theComment
--========================================

(Line 3 should have begun "set theComment to the text returned of...".)

Instead of erroring, the script set the file's comment to a long string of
Chinese characters, which Finder didn't seem entirely happy about - when
viewing the erroneous comment by clicking the disclosure triangle in the
file's info window there was a significant delay before the comment
displayed.

(Incidentally, Michelle, I find it hugely reassuring to know it's not just
me that makes these kind of dumb mistakes. :-))
