[script snipped, see Nigel's last post]
Nigel,
As the original poster of this thread I just wanted to take a moment to
thank you, and also the others who responded. Your previous script was
faster than my scripting attempt and this one is signifcantly faster. Using
my script and a test folder of approx. 220 items (folders and files) took
around 287 seconds. This latest script of yours does it in around 88.
I really appreciate the fact that you provided a script that...
A. Showed how to eliminate the Finder for obtaining the file names, using
TIDs and {":"}
B. Illustrated how to use Emmanuel's suggestion of appending the list.
Both very nice tips that can be put to use in other routines.
Also. I experimented with your script and used JD's suggestion of a third
party addition (GTQ Rename) to rename the files instead of using Finder. The
time was further reduced. On the same test folder it took just 39 seconds!
I still don't understand why the Finder is so slow.
Thanks again all.
