Did you try "tell worksheet n1"?

I can not tell you if I did it initially. But now I've tried windows, worksheet and workbook. In the workbook case it will only work if one of the workbooks is open. If more than one is open I get an error. Worksheet only works with one workbook open.
So as far as i can tell, the only way around it is opening the workbook as needed and closing it when finished.

This is a big pain.
One thing is surprising, though, excel was recordable as a OS pre X. It was not recordable as an X application, now it is. Probably in one of the updates. I know excel and word are now both recordable.
