Just Spamm? Simple as that?

Hi Guys,

I would like to share my experience with you:

I have a MailServer:

eMac G4 800Mhz
516Mb ram
Postfix enabled.
64K connectivity directly with the telephone company. Low speed, but good quality service.
24 hours on.

Aprox 10 email accounts.

Question: Why have my own server?

Answer: Just want to have my own filters. I have a friend who can't receive an email he sends to himself, because his provider has so many filters.

Problem:

One of my users misplaced his email address on a chat room.

Consequence:

I was under attack from Spammers for hours (remenber I only have 64k).

This single account received 8,000 emails (spam) in only 4 hours, before I could manage a program to block them SOBs...

Now you tell me that "Nowadays email addresses are more like public record"????

I don't agree....
