Script error: "a resource wasn't found"

A lot of my script's won't run. It turns out that whenever it needs a
dialog:
display dialog ""
it sends this error:
A resource wasn't found.
Now what in the world would cause that? All permissions look good in the
Additions folder.
This is agonizing, can't run any scripts!
