Hello all and I apologize in advance for the long post. I have a
tricky question for you.

The application opens, but I get an Applescript Error
"Nikon Capture Editor got an error: Can't continue takepicture." and
it doesn't take a picture.
Hmm...
Not sure, but is it granted that Nikon Capture really supports
AppleScript (hereafter AS)?
Looking at Nikon's site, I couldn't find any reference to AS; after all,
it wouldn't be the first time that software writers prepare the field
for AS without really supporting it: you then just have a dictionary,
but nothing useful...
Some more googling didn't convince me of anything related to AS.
On the other hand, as far as I can tell, you also might have some
version/firmware problem.
Are you able to perform any very basic operation from AS?
This is not meant to discourage you. Sincerely.
Just to avoid too much sweat in case your problem would in the final
reduce to the quest for the holy grail.
But I of course hope to be wrong :-)
Axel
