It's the OS 9 desktop if I'm not mistaken.

It's not the OS 9 desktop:

bash2.05a phil@iMac-Server ~ $ cd /
bash2.05a phil@iMac-Server / $ ls -aF
./ Desktop Folder/

No OS 9 on this machine. Appears not to be invisible either...

For what it's worth, if I run path to "sdsk" on my Jaguar setup (OS X only), it creates "Desktop Folder" at the root of my user folder.
