check your BBEdit prefs.. if under "State" Default State is other than "None", BBEdit writes state info to the resource fork.. you can also change this in the Save As dialog with Options.. not sure if its scriptable.. i have BBEdit 6.5; 7.x might be different.. alternatively you may be seeing the difference between UTF-8 and UTF-16 Unicode text
