Full Screen in QuickTime Player

The library for QuickTime Player gives the command for changing into full screen as:

enter full screen: Enter full screen video mode

enter full screen reference -- display

exit full screen: Exit full screen video mode

exit full screen reference -- display

But when I try it out, it doesn`t seem to work. I wish they would give beginners like me a little more detailed example. What exactly should I be inputting in place of reference? I`ve played with this for far too long. I`m sure it`s easier than what I`m making it out to be.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
