Disabling Javascript is getting to be a losing battle these days, but in the
world of browsers at large, a script could well encounter one with
JavaScript disabled. (I used to keep JavaScript disabled in my primary
browser, and use a secondary one if I came across a site which needed
JavaScript and which seemed worth the effort. Most sites aren't worth the
effort.)
I've given up, since web designers do like to show off with no gain in
functionality (and now and then a site is actually improved by JavaScript).
