Dan, let me know if you need a copy of the UI scripting beta. I can post it on my website for you to download. Secondly, you do not need Panther! I am still using Jaquar 10.2.8 and all of my scripts run great. I do have Panther, but I do not want to install it yet until I have completed a couple of live projects that I am working on. I don't want Panther to chance the performance of how my scripts are executing.

thanks

I'm trying to learn UI scripting. I have Enabled Assistive Devices in

that works, showing the UI hierarchy. None of the scripts I write or
download to manipulate an applications UI work. I've tried using
Finder, iPhoto, System Preferences, & some others. Mostly I've tried to
use the menu bar, but I've also tried to access windows & non-menu bar
buttons. I get a similar error every time. Here's an example script
with it's error:

<snip>
---------------------------Error-------------------
Expected end of line but found number.

Is this supposed to work on MacOSX 10.2.8?

No. (Or not unless you somehow managed to get hold of the former System
Events 1.2 beta that once worked with Jaguar but is no longer available from
Apple.)

If so, any ideas what I'm
doing wrong?

You're not in Panther. Consider it a good reason to upgrade. There are
another 100 or so good reasons too.
