Dan, if you don't want to get Panther right now, upgrade to 10.2.8
using software update. Then ask me to post GUI scripting beta for you
on my website. Install it on your system and use the sample script
that I gave you to see if it works. The only caveat is will you be
able to upgrade Jaquar to 10.2.8? If you are not able to upgrade
Jaquar beyond 10.2, you should probably consider upgrading to Panther.
thx

No. GUI Scripting was introduced as beta technology around the 10.2.3
timeframe, but it required downloading a special beta version of the
System
Events application. When 10.3 was released, Apple yanked the beta.
Officially, therefore, GUI Scripting was introduced as a new feature in
10.3.
