That's how JD's script (submitted previously) works. When the message is moved to the end of its current mailbox, a complete message reference is obtained and added to a list (ls).

I once thought that moving a message, without changing it, to the end of its current mailbox would be accomplished by Eudora with nothing more than a change to the table of contents or its sorted image. That is NOT CORRECT. Eudora actually makes a copy of the message in new space after the end of file.
If you use the "move to end" technique to step through all messages in a box and collect messages references in a list you will double the size of the mailbox file. Eudora will compress it, surely if asked and probably by default, but that kind of thing takes some time and disk activity for a large mailbox or selection.
It's interesting that the technique could be used to sort a mailbox by subject in a real sense so that the mailbox file can be opened with a text editor with all of the messages in order as though they were sorted in Eudora. I use perl to do that now so I can archive messages from mailing lists. What's missing is some confirmation from Qualcomm that "message 0" is always the topmost selected message in the mailbox as displayed in the current sort..
