I once thought that moving a message, without changing it, to the
end of its current mailbox would be accomplished by Eudora with
nothing more than a change to the table of contents or its sorted
image. That is NOT CORRECT. Eudora actually makes a copy of the
message in new space after the end of file.
If you use the "move to end" technique to step through all messages
in a box and collect messages references in a list you will double
the size of the mailbox file. Eudora will compress it, surely if
asked and probably by default, but that kind of thing takes some
time and disk activity for a large mailbox or selection.
Interesting observation. I've never looked into this aspect of moving
a message within a mailbox. Thanks for sharing your discovery.
