Well, I like the idea--so much so that I posted a TinyURL script myself
a few months back. I reasoned that these were the advantages:
1. Slightly more convenient for readers to try out posted solutions.
2. Eliminate line wrap issue. Since I've cast off the semi-conscious
policy of writing scripts that work neatly within 80 columns, I'm
happier, but I post less.
3. Avoid list server's killing non-ascii AppleScript characters.
Unfortunately, TinyURL.com limits source URLs to around 2000 characters
in my tests, which is too few to be a complete work around for the
list. Also, Script Editor doesn't decode non-ascii MacRoman characters
in passed URL, e.g., the line continuation character.
I saw it as a handy supplement to, but not a replacement for, inline
scripts.
