You didn't specify which OS you were using, Ed Lai's Record Access only works
with OS 9 or previous IIRC.

If you are on OS X then this new osax from Mark Alldritt at Lates Night
Software might be just what you need.

Record & List Tools that allow AppleScript to perform Set (union,
difference and intersection) operations on AppleScript lists and to
dynamically access the properties of AppleScript records.
