I've been doing something less drastic: I have a folder action script that
creates a new dated folder when a file arrives on the desktop; all files for
that day go into that folder. At the end of a month, I turn off the folder
action, create a "month" folder, and drag all the daily folders for the past
month into it. So my desktop currently has folders for January thru June,
and daily folders for any day in July when I've dropped stuff on the
Desktop. So far, that's working fairly well. The script is called FolderOrg:
