Hey everyone, I've been tinkering a bit with this problem but don't
seem to have a solution, though I'll confess I'm still at the
beginnings of learning AS.
My problem is that I need to manage sets of files in collections. For
example I would like to have one "File" that might contain a .txt info
document, an RTF or Word Document for lyrics, another document for a
music lead sheet, maybe a keynote or power point presentation, etc...
I started thinking it might work to use a "package", either file or
folder, such as an RTFD document or an application package. This way
the file is manageable as a single file, its contents are kept together
via email or disc transfer or in the unfortunate event of a software
restore, etc.
Is there any way to:
Option A -
Create and read RTFD documents from directly inside of AS? Ultimately
I plan to write something in AS Studio but for now I just want to
figure out how it all works, then I'll worry about a GUI.
If I can read / write RTFD, is there any way to create my own file type
/ extension in AS Studio so text edit doesn't always try to open it?
Option B -
Create an empty package folder that I can dump files into. This seems
less appealing because they wouldn't be actual files, but I guess it
would work.
Far as I know the package flag is read only so I'm a bit stumped.
Finally, if anyone has any ideas on a better way to do it I'm all ears-
er... all eyes I guess...
Thanks so much for the insight, this list is always a great help!
- Cliff
