display dialog time out problem

  • Subject: display dialog time out problem

i'm getting AppleEvent time out errors when i give a display dialog command a give up after 55 seconds. i tried with timeout, even though that doesn't apply to AppleScript commands, and as expected it didn't change anything. I would think that having a display dialog option of giving up after would allow one to put in any duration without the script having a problem. the display dialog is inside an idle handler

any thoughts suggestions? is this a known behaviour? thanks.
