Smile sees Dictionary, SE doens't...

Now, why would that be?
An example is Default Folder X. SE says "unable to read dictionary, etc,
etc." but Smile opens it OK (on dragging over its icon). And there are
more cases.

OS X 10.3.4, SE 2.0

Any thoughts?
