I'm guessing that it has something to do with the bring back the ability to record scripts. Maybe we'll get recordable System Events. Sure would be nice to edit Automator scripts, and if this doesn't appear with 10.4, I'll bet it will in a subsequent release.

Sal Soghoian gives the Automator demo, which is a clue in and of itself. :)

I presume it's Apple events underneath, with something like Photoshop's
actions palette on top. It's not at all clear whether applescript gets a
look in.

It will be clear when you watch the keynote address.

I just watched it and it seems like it is built on AppleScript, or at least on Apple Events. When Sal saved the "workflow", it was saved to the Scripts folder, and run from the scripts menu. I was left wondering if you could open the "workflow" in Script Editor and find an AppleScript lurking inside. It would never, as shown, be able to replace hand tuned scripts, but seems more like "scripting for Granny" (of course excluding the list's resident granny). Looked like it was nudging into the territory of QuicKeys, but without the level of control the it offers.
