Easy to fix. Get 'Local Talk Bridge' [1], which will connect your
AppleTalk-only printers to your Ethernet network so you can share them.
That's just what I do with a StyleWriter and a LaserWriter that are non-USB.

I don't have problems printing PDF from Acrobat Reader 4/5 to a StyleWriter,
etiher directly or on our LAN.

[1] This is a control panel and is available on UMICH or INFO-MAC, as well
as from Apple in the FTP downloads.
