How did you manage that? :-) That folder's read-only.
I have a newer, X-ready version (3.0d3) that I'd like to place there.
That's not recommended. If you want Jon's to be available to all
users, put in the Library folder at the root of your startup disk. If
you want it just available to yourself, put it in your own library
folder. Both in a folder named "ScriptingAdditions" of course.
Simply dragging won't work.
No, because Apple doesn't want you to put 3rd party osaxen in there.
From reading Matt Neuberg's "AppleScript: The Definitive Guide" ( a
great book, btw), I believe I understand why this won't work. He
explains how to work around the absence of a scripting addition on the
fly in Panther.
I'm not sure this approach will work 10.2.8. Can anyone suggest how to
get this _replacement_ done in 10.2.8? I've thought of starting up in
Classic, but hate to be so regressive. Any other way available (short
of upgrading Mac OS X)?
Decide on which of the 2 recommended places you want the new one to go,
create a "ScriptingAdditions" folder there and just drop it in. If you
want to create it with AS, run this:
path to "scr" from local domain -- creates a scripting additions
folder in the main Library folder
Or this:
path to "scr" from user domain -- creates a scripting additions folder
in the Library folder of your current user account
As far as getting rid of the the 2.1.2 version, you'll either need to
'rm' it using Terminal, or temporarily change the permissions on the
folder it's in so you can delete it in the Finder.
Further question: from the Terminal, when I list the ScriptingAdditons
folder contents, it gives "Jon???s Commands", while GetInfo gives the
usual apostrophied spelling. What's this about?
Smells like Unicode spirit. ;-) Jon uses a 'smart' single quote in
the name.
