In addition to agreeing with Michelle (being British, I cannot understand
the American penchant for putting the period (or 'full stop') inside the
quotes - it makes no sense to me). However, in this particular case there
can be no alternative, even for Americans. :)

You would totally change the point of the statement if you'd said '... or
worked for either "test" or "test.jpg."' since now it looks like you're
testing "test.jpg." which is a valid filename, but not for a JPEG file in
this context.
