From Peter's short announcement:

"It is intended for individual or local network use only,
and its method of operation ensures a reasonable level of security."


There are plenty of useful and interesting things about Peter's tool.

To whatever degree it is "safe" to double-click an icon, it is equally
"safe" to use Missing Link.
