That's intent, not a safeguard. Ask MS about this.

You're being awfully glib. If there is any security violation, it will be the user who is the victim. It's very relevant to the matter at hand whether he is using the product as intended. For example, Apple doesn't intend for you to hand out your root password to strangers--if you did, would Apple's weak security be to blame when your hard drive was wiped?

It allows me to invoke executables via HTML links from a web page. That's a
network application.

If you say so. So long as we're making up specious definitions of 'network application', then I'm saying TextEdit is a network application. I can use it to save files over the network to my iDisk, so it must be.

3. If your chair is left empty, your computer on, and someone sits down and
starts clicking away, this is not the fault of any software.

Strawman...this isn't about physical security.

No, but it is about you spreading fear, uncertainty, and doubt about a virtually harmless script applet.
