I'm reluctant to stir the pot again, but...

In reply to William Wallace who wrote and described the file:/// protocol
capability of IE 5.1.7, I will mention that this version of IE is one of
the most forgiving and flexible in the use of same protocol that I'm
aware of. By no means do all browsers (X or pre-X) reliably do what you
speak of.

In addition, this thread has focused mainly on a superseded version of
Missing Link. The 'proposed' new version (which has not been released)
has the capability of passing certain types of HTML and Javascript form
input to AppleScript. This _may_ give ML something more than a 'Hello
World' capability.

For those concerned, I have no intentions of releasing the new version
until a method has been found to ensure a reasonable level of security
for the old. I'm hoping that method may be applicable to both versions.

I wish I could reply in some form to most - if not all - posts. It ain't
in me. Nor can I weave the suggested safeguards into ML overnight. I
wish I could.

When all this has faded away, and when I'm able, I will quietly post a
new demo, and invite interested folks to tear it apart... preferably
_off_ list.
