Well, it works with a literal string (date "5/11/2004"), but it

It worked with a variable when I had 10.2.8, and as best as I can
remember in all previous versions.
Interesting. Maybe it depends on what script editor one is using?
FWIW, the error I got was that it couldn't make "5/11/2004" into a date.
