I'm at a loss there; all I use is Script Editor, so have nothing for

FWIW, the error I got was that it couldn't make "5/11/2004" into a
date.
That is very strange; I wonder whether there's a hidden control
character or something, or possibly if it is unicode text rather than
an ascii string.
