In the interests of completeness, I can confirm Paul Berkowitz's
suggestion that 'option' is not an option on at least some 'European'
keyboards. The UK-issue Apple keyboards supplied with my 1997 vintage
9500, my 2001 Quicksilver G4, and 2004 iMac all have keys that only say
'alt', as does the Macally IceKey replacement keyboard that I'm using
right now.
Nice to post on a subject where, for once, I feel on fairly solid
ground.
