At the beginning of this year, Mark Butler encountered problems while
renaming items within a folder having folder action(s) attached. [1]
It appeared that renaming an item triggers two consecutive events,
i.e.
"removing folder items" and "adding folder items".
As a result, it proved extremely hard to simultaneously handle item
renamings as well as true add/removes within a single folder.
The conclusion was thus that it would be handy to have a distinguished
event for item renamings, with its companion "on renaming folder
items..." handler.
I missed that thread. Sorry if this point was made already, but: it
seems
more like "on removing" and "on adding" behave as if they are an "on
changing" event, and I think you run into the same trouble when for
example
you just "touch" a file (changing its modification date) or change its
label
index, etc.
I have not tested each of the scenarios you describe, but my experience
conflicts with at least one of them. When files are merely overwritten
(using the same file name, but resulting in a new modification date),
the 'adding folder items' handler is not triggered.
10.3.3, AS 1.9.3
Isn't that something that should simply considered to be a bug?
And if so, shouldn't it be fixed, and should then not an "on changing"
event
be added (or even with an optional paramter so as to allow for "on
changing
name", on changing "label index", etc.) for those who _want_ to have
something happen in that case?
