If a database app can be fitting the requirements for the project, I
think 4D is a viable option. While being as easy to learn as Filemaker
for *simple projects*, but equally to Filemaker taking longer to learn
for *advanced projects* (though less in this case than FM), it's powerful
and also possible to build good GUIs to the data (IMHO leaving Filemaker
well behind in both cases. I could list pages of features, but this is
the wrong list).
But MySQL or PostgreSQL may also work if the demands on native GUI isn't
top priority, but rather number crunching. The Bbedit choice seem to
point that way.
I'm very curious to hear what the application is?
