file extension

Hi

I am completely new to apple script and was wondering if anyone has an
idea on how i could solve the following problems:

- how i could add a .qxd extension to all quark xpress documents in a
given folder recursively if they don't already have one. would be cool if
that was also possible with other documents, such as eps files or tiff
since we have tons of them on our server and the new windows machines
have trouble without those extensions

- how could i replace all / & with a - anywhere in filenames and delete *
entirely. we have quite a few files scattered all over that are named
*Rez-s/w_new.tif. would be nice if thi would also work recursively and
just skip the instances where there is a conflict (say a file *Rez.tif
and one Rez.tif in the same folder)

any help would be greatly appreciated

simon
