So did I. (And I attended a pre-release dog and pony show about it at
Seattle Mac dBUG (now named dbug)--so I was primed for its release.)

But I stopped using it years ago, long before I stopped running Mac OS 9 for
anything other than the occasional quick test (the only time in 2004 that
I've booted my dual 533 into Mac OS 9 was to check which version it claimed
to be during boot--as opposed to what the Startup Disk preference pane
claims). (The old 7300 has been booted into Mac OS a few times this year,
and into Linux a few times.)

It's probably time for Apple to thing about tossing a "Suppress Mac OS 9"
checkbox into the Startup Disk preference pane (not necessary for machines
which can't boot into 9, presumably). At the moment, Startup Disk offers
two Mac OS X and four Mac OS 9 volumes I could (try to) start from. The 9s
are just in the way.
