Syntax to replicate dragging Mail.app mailbox to desktop?

I'm trying to write a script that will 1) copy the selected messages to a new temporary mailbox, 2) save that mailbox as a .mbox file on the desktop (same behavior as dragging the mailbox to the desktop in the UI), and 3) delete the mailbox.

I have 1 and 3 working. I can't figure out a syntax for 2. Anyone done this?
