The problem is that not all mail programs can read RTF so by using it

The same goes for HTML e-mail. E-mail was designed around plain text,
if you are going to do other formats over e-mail then at the very
least be considerate and include a plain text alternative in the
message.
I am aware of this. Actually, as a consultant, I counsel others to do
this.
I was not asking a generic question. I was told once ON THIS LIST to
use text formatting when posting AppleScripts to prevent line wrap. Or
at least, it was a list about AppleScript, and this is the only one I
subscribe to.
Since I see that we now have two threads debating this, and I don't see
anything in the FAQs, I'd like to hear from a list admin so *I* can act
accordingly.
And in reply to John Welch:
Never use RTF in an email client for anything. I really REALLY wish
apple
would get with the program in mail and go with HTML for rich text
email.
This is ridiculous. I most often use RTF in reply to my clients, who I
know are on Mail.app. Whether or not it's appropriate for this list is
subject only to a List Mom ruling -- the rest of us can only debate
endlessly.
FWIW, Mail.app sends plain text alternative along with RTF, so I'm
quite happy that they're with that program, and not with the program
where formatted email can grab stuff from the Net. But that's just my
opinion, I'm not forcing it on anyone.
Best,
Jeff
