Those sounded unfamiliar so I checked on my OS 9 box. I had an alias
sitting the desktop
files -l 'Callisto:Desktop Folder:SprintAntenna alias' (an MPW shell command)
Type Crtr
faet MACS
So. . . watch out for old files and networked aliases.
Yeah, I knew there was another one (besides 'fdrp') that I was treating as
equivalent, and (..code dive!..) it is 'faet'. I can't remember where that
comes up, possibly with a file/alias on (or referencing?) a network drive
or other-than-boot drive.... So, Types: 'faet', 'fdrp', and 'slnk' each
represent some form of 'alias' (file or folder, local or not...)
It turns out there is an old list of OS-9 meanings for these online at
<http://developer.apple.com/documentation/mac/Toolbox/Toolbox-488.html>
where you'll find that
faet => {export folder alias}
fdrp => {folder alias}
slnk => <wag>{Symbolic Link}</wag>
With luck, that covers all the possibilities.
Brian Johnson (wishing I could use MPW now and again)
