When I installed OS X from CDs (not pre-installed) it disabled the extension
manager and chooser and a few others in the pre-existing OS 9 folders on my
home G4. When printing from OS 9, OS X dialogs appear and I print just as if
I were in OS X, from Classic.
I now have a G5 at the office that came with OS 9 pre-installed.
The pre-installed system has the extension manager and chooser active in OS
9! However, I cannot print from any application in OS 9. I get the same
dialogs as Ed is getting. Even if I choose a printer from the Chooser, the
same dialogs appear.
I want to use my OS X printers at the office, just like I was able to after
installing from the CDs on my home G4. How? I tried disabling (turning off)
all the relevant OS 9 extensions and restarting classic, but no-go. I still
can't print. I've been saving OS 9 documents to the desktop as text files,
then printing from TextEdit as a temporary workaround.
And why does one installation of OS X differ from the other in this way? I
want the same printing functionality as I have on my G4 at home.
Ideas? An Applescript solution?
