Forget all this hocus-pocus and download Linebreak.

It is without a doubt the best utility to handle this operation and if you must, scriptable.
Once the preferences are set you can D&D a directory on it or set it to also do the sub-directories.

Thank you for the information, Bill.

I've no doubt that products like Linebreak, Line Break Converter, etc., do an excellent job for those that require such things. I've used and scripted several of them - and have even been in discussion on certain points with some of the developers.

I write and distribute software solutions for a variety of clients, who often require (among other features) line end conversion as part of the overall package. Where a third-party solution is more convenient or essential, I'll either include it or recommend it. But if I can effectively resolve various issues as part of a single package - especially when it avoids launching a further application and presenting yet another dialog/panel to the user - I will.

The script that I offered is an extract from a larger one that satisfies the needs of many of my clients. In fact, "all this hocus-pocus", as you describe it, is *AppleScript* - which is why I posted it (appropriately enough, I thought) to the AppleScript Users list. It was intended for those visiting the list who are interested in developing their scripting techniques - or in discussing the relative merits of different scripting methods. For many of them, scripting is something that they want master - rather than an "if you must" activity.

By all means, recommend any solution that you consider relevant and worthy. But please don't denigrate other approaches that may also merit consideration - even if they don't suit your personal taste or situation.

The best part, its free.

So is AppleScript - not to mention all the "hocus-pocus" that appears on this list. ;-)
