Mail to iCal and iCal to Mail

I want to be able to generate "To Do" items in iCal from email being collected by Mail.app. I haven't scripted iCal yet so I'll have to see how I go. I want to have iCal acting as fancy diary, it can be a record of job requests and I can tick them off when they are done.

I'd like to be able to link the "To Do" item to the original email. Is there a URL form that I can use to access the email from iCal, for example, mail://work/office/business manager/msg9838783737 ?
