I don't believe you can link to a single Mail.app message via a URL.

Instead of using the URL method to reference emails you could get the Message ID from Mail and add it to the Todo. Then to access the email you could copy the message id and run a script that walks Mail's mailbox folder structure looking for the message with this ID.

One thing I have noticed with scripting iCal is that Todos do not have a property for Description in the Todo class. I think this is an oversight in the Applescript implementation. You can work round this by modifying the .ics file directly.

I hope this is helpful.

I want to be able to generate "To Do" items in iCal from email being
collected by Mail.app. I haven't scripted iCal yet so I'll have to see
how I go. I want to have iCal acting as fancy diary, it can be a record
of job requests and I can tick them off when they are done.

I'd like to be able to link the "To Do" item to the original email. Is
there a URL form that I can use to access the email from iCal, for
example, mail://work/office/business manager/msg9838783737 ?
