One thing I have noticed with scripting iCal is that Todos do not have a property for Description in the Todo class. I think this is an oversight in the Applescript implementation. You can work round this by modifying the .ics file directly.

A couple weeks ago I was looking into doing something similar, establishing a link between iCal todos and a text file, when I too discovered the absence of a Description property. It seemed ridiculous to me. And then, while I was manually editing the .ics file, I apparently messed up the syntax and the whole calendar erased down to one entry. I lost everything on it. Lesson learned, I guess.
Any Applescript mods/libraries for ediitng a .ics file running around somewhere?
