I believe that it's because, although the dictionary doesn't say so, the content of an incoming message is read only.



As far as I know, the content of an incoming message can't be modified by hand.
So, it is not really surprising that it can't be modified thru AppleScript.

Well, in Claris Emailer, the content of an incoming message was not modifiable by hand, but was modifiable through AppleScript, so it is not out of the realm of possibilities.
