Quark Oddities 6.5, OS 10.3.9

All:

I am slowly rewriting our production scripts to work in Quark 6.5, but am
constantly plauged with weird behaviors when in editing -- doesn't seem to
matter what script editor I use, it seems to be equal opportunity
strangeness.

Example: Script is being modified, breaks on simple command with -43 error
(can't find the object -- a file). In desperation, all I did was copy the
exact same line of code from one script to the other, paste it in, now
*that* line runs flawless, but...

...now script complains it can't find the template file (which ran fine
before above stated paste). So I copy the name of the file in the Finder,
paste it into the script over the exact same text, and now it works! No
changes other than a paste of the exact same string.

The question is: Is this normal?? I've been told that the Quark AppleScript
extension causes this, but if I remove the extension, then many Quark items
(such as bounds) do not display properly in the editors.

Damned if I do, damned if I don't? What's the solution here, if there is
one?

Ken
