Finder f*ck-ups

What's going on with the Finder in Tiger?

I've got a sneaky suspicion that Apple have instigated some kind of undocumented copy protection for DVD data.

If I need to copy VOB files I keep getting permission errors and then the files start disappearing from the GUI. I can still see them from the shell, but even cp or mv won't move the data from DVD to disk.

Doing the same job from a machine running Panther presents no difficulty at all. Switch to any machine running Tiger and it all goes screwy again.

Does anybody know if this behaviour is documented anywhere?

I've got no problem with *copy protection* but having files disappear from the Finder windows indicates some pretty pathetic programming from Apple.
