...and being such a smart ass, I realize immediately upon re-seeing the
subject, that neither of my examples was an _image_!
That bites, and in that case, I think via Safari, and using JS, the two
options seem to be:
XML_http_Request
or look at this easily implemented example at O'Reilly ...

I still believe 'curl' is the way to go here, however.
