Hey, that's a good idea.

I'm going to look into that as an addition to Entourage Browser.
I could only (quickly) imagine that annotations could be applied to a text
archive of messages, or maybe as an adjunct file for mboxes.

Then, again, maybe Spotlight (which I don't have/use) solves that
problem...in theory, anyway?
