I have seen similar declarations in Javascript forums, such as your

Thinking AppleScript or perhaps JavaScript, is this regular
expression using non-perl rules?
I am really surprised to see [A-Z0-9._%-] where I would expect to see
[A-Za-z0-9\._%-].
Case sensitivity and use of the . (period) to match anything are the
rules I have learned. Is AppleScript or an extension thereto
different? Is it a unicode thing?
The % is included to allow for URL encoded addresses like the ones
used by spammers eh?
