hdiutil burn

I'm having a problem with the following snippet of code ...

quoted form of (POSIX path of itemRef)
"hdiutil burn " & the result & " -noeject -testburn"
    try
        do shell script the result
    end try
set the clipboard to (the result as text) --***********************

The application crashes on the 'do shell ...' command. The source code file is damaged and will not run and can no longer be edited (changes fail to save). I have to log-out, log-in, trash the old file, create a new application.

Does anyone have any experience using 'hdiutil burn ...' that would be useful here?
