The result box always shows the quotes around a string. Try this:
display dialog the source
Further, the fact that the result window automatically quotes and
escapes strings can be very handy... if you ever had a particularly
difficult string to escape, here's what I do:
Type it in a text editor
Copy it
In Script Editor (or Smile) run:
the clipboard data
Now copy your newly escaped string from the results box
